A BESTA TEM GRAÇA !

O incomparável  e incontornável Bashar al-Assad, Presidente da Síria pela Graça de Alá, figura de girafa e modos de Ferrabrás, é também fino, ávido, crítico e irónico estudante da língua inglesa. Das fugas que têm ocorrido ultimamente no correio electrónico do Estado Sírio, algumas peças são dele mesmo, Bashar al-Assad. Numa delas, dirigida ao seu tradutor -  o janota tem um tradutor, segundo os jornais - faz considerações mordazes sobre a língua de Shakespeare.

Começa assim:

Let's face it. English is a stupid language.

There is no egg in the eggplant,
No ham in the hamburger
And neither pine nor apple in the pineapple.
English muffins were not invented in England.

E termina assim:

English was invented by people, not computers
And it reflects the creativity of the human race
(Which of course isn't a race at all)
That is why when the stars are out they are visible
But when the lights are out they are invisible.
And why is it that when I wind up my watch, it starts,
But when I wind up this poem,
It ends!!!!

Convenhamos que a besta tem graça, coisa inesperada em tal cabeça. A humanidade é constituída, incontestavelmente, por caixinhas de surpresas!
