Depois de perder na Luz, Benitez tem de dar uma explicação aos fãs do Liverpool, claro. Mas nem todos são parvos. Brian Phillips, por exemplo, escreve num comentário do The Times:
.
I have been a Liverpool fan, well, since I was about 5 (now 41). My Dad is an Evertonian so supporting one of the teams in Liverpool is in my blood.
I have been to a few Liverpool games in my years, FA Cup Final, Charity Shields, Season ticket on the kop.
I don't have qualms with any of the decisions on the night by the referee. The penalties were correct, the offside called on the Torres goal was correct. The Babel sending off was also correct in that the referee followed the letter of the law (you can discuss how the law should be followed) . If the referee had not sent Babel off he would have been reported by the refereeing marker and probably not have been given a new match in Europe this year.
Babel got suckered in to react to the tackle and the player. Why he is over even interfering no one knows. He will learn....one day. We played well but most teams would struggle with 11 men against Benfica let alone with 10.
I am looking forward to Thursday night next week where hopefully we will grind out a 1-0 win in the last minute of extra time!

E Will Rushmore também não alinha com Benitez:

Liverpool have very little to complain about.
Liverpool's goal starts with an incorrectly awarded free kick (Gerrard stepped on the defender's leg and lost his balance (or took a dive).
Babel was sent off because he first slapped and then pushed Luisao in the face, about 40cm from the ref. Liverpool never "had a goal disallowed", because the linesman had (correctly) flagged for offside about 10 seconds earlier.
Insua should have been booked for the foul that gave the first penalty (and it would be the second, so he should have been sent off). Both penalties were well awarded. In fact, the ref should have awarded and a third one, when Carragher kicked Cardozo in the shoulder inside the box.
Benfica had 5 clear chances to score in the first half alone, and at least another 4 decent chances in the second half, not counting the actual goals.
